Do voice commands enhance or distract from gameplay?

After using voice commands in a few games, I’m torn. Sometimes it makes things way more fun, like when I’m playing with friends and don’t want to fiddle with buttons. But other times, the game mishears me or doesn’t respond right, which can be kind of frustrating. Do you feel like voice control actually makes gameplay better, or does it just add more hassle?
