ALUMNI
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Leadership Atlanta is a volunteer driven membership organization.
All aspects of programming, financial development, and governance
are directed by alumni in volunteer roles who are supported by a small
professional staff.
Our volunteer leadership, like each Leadership Atlanta class, is
chosen to insure a broad range of diversity - in skills, profession,
gender, ethnicity, length of membership, etc.
Volunteer leadership roles include:
Board of Trustees
A Nominating Committee, chaired by the past chair of the board, solicits
nominations from Leadership Atlanta members. They present a slate
of top nominees to the Board, who votes to elect the new members and
officers. Trustees serve a three-year term. Officers of the Board
of Trustees include: Chair of Board, Treasurer, Chair of Program Committee,
and Chair of Membership Committee.
Program Committee
The Program Committee of Leadership Atlanta is responsible for the
planning and implementation of the overall program year. The chair
of the Program Committee is appointed by the Board of Trustees.
The chair is responsible for recruiting co-chairs for each of the
retreat and program day committees. These co-chairs make up the
Program Committee. The Program Committee will provide a useful forum
to insure that individual program days complement each other and
fit within the overall program year objectives. It serves as a sounding
board for program committee co-chairs who seek advice and ideas
regarding their programs. The co-chairs for each program recruit
additional members to serve on their planning committees. All committees
are guided and supported by the Executive Director and the Program
Coordinator, who keep records, provide continuity, conduct program
evaluations, and make all final budgeting decisions.
Time Frame:
Each Program Year runs from Orientation in June to Spring Retreat
in late April. The planning committee for each program will meet
periodically for at least four months prior its scheduled date.
(Click here for a schedule of this year’s programs)
Program Committee Co-Chairs will:
- Select one of the co-chairs to coordinate communications within
your committee and set up the first meeting.
- Recruit other members for your committee.
- At your first meeting, develop goals and objectives for the
program day.
- Develop the agenda for the program day. Each program should
address the assigned program topic and include a sensitivity
to issues of gender, race, and ethnic diversity.
- Plan the program day to be as experiential as possible. Avoid
using only panels and “talking heads."
- Contact and make arrangements for all guest speakers. Draft
confirmation letters to speakers and send to staff for mailing.
Be sure to include speaker’s name, title and address.
- Choose location(s) for program day, communicate to staff any
a/v equipment, table and chair arrangement, room size and other
operational details.
- Secure sponsor(s) for facility, meals, refreshments, transportation,
parking, etc. (see financial guidelines before contacting sponsors).
- Arrange for any handouts or pre-class activities for the program
day.
- Prepare a letter to the class at least three weeks prior to
the program day. Letter should include objectives, description
of the day, date, time, place, appropriate dress, directions
and parking information.
- Share in the responsibility of thanking all of those who had
a role in planning the day
Study Group Facilitators
Two alumni facilitators are assigned to each of the class’s
six study groups. Facilitators are responsible for attending study
group meetings to encourage full participation and help the group
through its growth process.
Membership Committee
Leadership Atlanta relies on the volunteer support of its more than
2,000 alumni to keep the organization moving forward. The Membership
Committee sponsors programs, socials, community forums and many
more activities for Leadership Atlanta alumni.
Membership Dues
The continued financial stability of Leadership Atlanta is ensured
by the annual support of our alumni. Alumni membership dues are
$100, $200, or $300+ annually. The fiscal year runs from June 1
– May 31.
Sponsorships
Leadership Atlanta’s programs and operations are made possible
in large part by generous sponsorships and donations from corporations
as well as other small businesses and community organizations. A
sponsorship can be designated for a specific class program day or
alumni event, or can be given as an unrestricted gift. Sponsorships
range from a $1000 Bronze level to a $20,000+ Platinum Plus level.
Sponsors are acknowledged in all Leadership Atlanta publications
as well as at the designated event.
Recruitment Committee
It is the responsibility of the Recruitment Committee to seek out
qualified candidates for the program year and to encourage leaders
from all of Atlanta’s diverse constituencies to apply for
acceptance into the annual class program. Membership on the committee,
which shall be appointed by the committee chair, shall be open to
all dues paying members. Committee members serve for one year, but
may serve additional terms.
Selection Committee
It is the responsibility of the Selection Committee to choose the
members of the incoming Leadership Atlanta class. The immediate
past Chair of the Program Committee shall chair this committee.
The Chair shall select six alumni, all of who shall be dues paying
members, to serve on the committee. The Selection Committee reviews
and scores all submitted applications and selects a class of not
more than seventy members chosen for their leadership potential
and achievements in their career and/ or community service.
If you are interested in serving on any of these committees,
or would like further information, please contact the Leadership
Atlanta office by calling (404) 876-4770.
